Dr. Hector de Jesus Ruiz is a founder of Advanced Nanotechnology Solutions, Inc. (ANS) and serves as the company’s Chairman.

Dr. Ruiz is an advisor of individuals, corporations and governments on breakthrough technology initiatives. An accomplished chief executive and luminary in the field of technology for nearly three decades, Dr. Ruiz has helped build and guide top-tier global technology companies, including Texas Instruments, Motorola and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). At Motorola, he served as President of the company’s Semiconductor Products Sector. As CEO of AMD, Dr. Ruiz set the strategic direction of the company, helping guide its growth from a small, broad supplier of components to an innovative technology solutions leader in the processor space. In 2009, he led an industry transformation by spinning out AMD’s manufacturing assets to form GLOBALFOUNDRIES, the first truly global cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing company.

While at AMD, Hector spearheaded the 50x15 initiative, setting an aggressive goal to have half the world connected to the Internet by 2015. He also received numerous accolades, including the Semico Bellwether Award (2009), EE Times Executive of the Year (2005), Electronic Business CEO of the Year (2005), and Fortune Top 25 Business Leader (2006). During this time, Hector successfully published Slingshot: AMD’s Fight to Free an Industry from the Ruthless Grip of Intel, a book that vividly recounts his bet-the-company decision in 2005 to file an antitrust case against its much larger rival.

Hector currently serves on UT’s College of Engineering Foundation Advisory Council. In 2006, he was selected as a Distinguished Engineering Graduate of UT-Austin and later as Distinguished Alumni of Rice University. In 2012, he was selected for the Distinguished Alumni Award, the Texas Exes’ highest honor. Hector currently serves as a Trustee Emeriti of Rice University and is on the Board of Trustees of Harvey Mudd College and the Board of Directors of Breakthrough Austin.

Prior to these appointments, Hector served as a member of President George W. Bush’s Council of Advisors for Science and Technology. He also served on Boards for the RAND Corporation, Spansion Inc., Darden Restaurants, the Eastman Kodak Co. and the Semiconductor Industry Association.

Hector’s evolving portfolio of organizations and investments represent his passion to explore new frontiers for creating positive impact.

In addition to his work at ANS, Hector invests his time and resources in a wide portfolio of technology companies, including Polymagnet Correlated Magnets (small magnets that fuel innovation), Lucid (Artificial Intelligence), Motivo (innovation in engineering process), Ineda (smart sensing, Trusted Security, enabling IoT), Vidatronic (revolutionary power management solutions) and Ares Materials (flexible electronics).

Dr. Ruiz attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in electrical engineering. He completed his doctoral degree at Rice University.
